Rainbow Place

Rainbow Place provides free, specialist nursing support for children and young people living with advanced or life-limiting conditions. The service is founded on the belief that a life-limiting diagnosis should never mean a life without dignity, fun, joy or meaningful experiences.

This paediatric palliative care service is designed to enhance the quality of life for both the child and their family, offering holistic, personalised care that respects each family’s unique journey.

Paediatric palliative care differs significantly from adult palliative care. It does not always indicate that end-of-life is near. Rather, it acknowledges that the child has a serious, potentially life-limiting condition for which a cure may not be possible. Some children may receive care from Rainbow Place over many years, continuing to pursue curative treatments while benefiting from the additional support provided.

Rainbow Place works in close partnership with each child’s medical team, offering a collaborative and flexible approach that prioritises comfort, continuity, and compassion. The team is committed to walking alongside families—offering expert guidance, advocacy, and unwavering support, without judgement.

"Rainbow Place has been such an incredible support for our whaanau. But, more than that, Elijah LOVES when he gets to go and stay (for respite care). Rainbow Place is like going to camp or Rainbows End for him. I can’t express how much Rainbow Place means to us"
Toni (Elijah's Mum)
