Māori Strategy
In 2022, and with the support of the Waikato Community Hospice Foundation, our Board established Te Poumua, its Māori Strategy Advisory Board, whose role was to provide support, advice and influence for the development of a Māori Strategy that aligns with health sector reforms and meets the needs of the hospice community, while upholding Kīngitanga and Mana Whenua.
Te Poumua worked alongside Roa Ltd to develop “Te Whatu Kahu”, a document which takes a comprehensive look at the health needs of Māori and has a simple but powerful vision. “Māori members of our communities are dying well. They are experiencing quality of life in their end-of-life journey and are dying comfortably with dignity. They are receiving equitable, timely care and are having positive experiences with palliative, end of life care services”.
The Māori Strategy is in its final stages and we look forward to sharing this document with our stakeholders and our community in the coming months.
