Registered Nurse - Rainbow Place

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join our Rainbow Place team on a permanent basis (32 hours per week). The Rainbow Place team consists of a Team Leader, three Registered Nurses and three Health Care Assistants. Flexibility around hours will be required in this role with the ability to work outside of normal working hours from time to time and to be on call. As a member of the Rainbow Place Nursing Team, you will contribute to the collective growth and development of Rainbow Place services at Hospice Waikato and will be committed to the on-going development of your paediatric and palliative care knowledge and understanding.

Rainbow Place is the children and young people’s service of Hospice Waikato – we are the only hospice in New Zealand that offers specialist child-focussed palliative care services supporting children and young people aged 0-18 years, and their families, living with a life limiting/life threatening condition.

Care and support is offered to children and young people often for many years from diagnosis of a life limiting/life threatening condition, throughout the child/young person’s life, end of life care and onto bereavement support. The Rainbow Place team work alongside other health professionals involved in the care of the child/young person, providing skilled paediatric palliative care input, and supporting their family/carers.

Care and support is provided wherever it is needed, such as the family home, school, hospital and other community facilities, as well as the Rainbow Place facilities and Hospice Waikato In-Patient Unit for respite, symptom control and end of life care. This role will include a mix of community nursing and in-patient respite support for the children who stay on site.

To be the right fit for this role and our organisation you would bring:
• Registered Nurse Qualification
• Registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand
• A current practising certificate with Nursing Council of New Zealand
• Paediatric nursing experience
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of an interdisciplinary team
• A visible passion for nursing and the field of children’s palliative care
• Current full New Zealand driver’s license

• Post-registration qualification in Palliative Care
• Experience in family support
• Advanced clinical assessment skills
• Experience in patient/family education
• Experience in community-based nursing
