Our Care

Hospice Waikato helps people who are living with a terminal illness to live life to its fullest, while providing comfort and specialist palliative care.

In many cases those living with a terminal illness may be well cared for by their primary care providers, such as their general practitioner and/or district nurses and will not require specialist palliative care. However, there may also be times when the physical, social and emotional problems being experienced are complex. In these cases referral to Hospice Waikato for specialist palliative care is appropriate.

Hospice care looks after the needs of a person, through medical and nursing care along with emotional support. This service is free of charge.

Patients referred to Hospice Waikato may remain in the palliative care service, however, if symptoms settle, patients may be discharged back to their primary care providers.

We believe that everyone deserves to have the best quality of life possible.
