Funding
Our contract with Waikato District Health Board will provide us with approximately 70% of our annual operating budget each year. We rely on the Waikato community to fund the remaining 30% which equates to around $1.9 million. Each year this amount needs to be raised through our shops, and from grants, bequests and general donations.
Accountability
Hospice Waikato is accountable to a number of stakeholders:
- To patients and their family / whanau for the provision of appropriate and competent hospice palliative care services
- To individual donors, trusts, foundations and the Waikato District Health Board.
- Hospice New Zealand in terms of compliance with approved standards of practice and management.
- To employees and volunteers by providing a safe, supportive and stimulating work environment.
Strategic Imperatives
To provide the Waikato District with:
- Specialised, best practice, culturally sensitive, holistic palliative care, education and training.
- Specialised palliative care for the individual within the context of the family / whanau.
- Specialised palliative care accessible to all ages from infancy.
- Specialised palliative patient / family services at no charge.
Capacity
- Cancer, non-cancer referrals, accessible to all age groups, all cultures, all religions.
- Supporting 15% growth per annum average over the past three years: patient referrals and support referrals.
- Provide all services at no charge: funding by secure, long-term strategic – private and public sector partnerships.
Access
- Self referral to Hospice Waikato
- Referral from doctors health professionals/services or hospitals

- Quality Health NZ Accreditation; University of Waikato Credentialed
- Culturally sensitive community based care and support services for patients and their families / whanau.
- Holistic care, integrating physical [tinana], social [whanau], emotional [hinengaro] and spiritual [wairua]
- Assessment and preparation of individual care programmes for each patient / family.
